Research Focus

  • ePedagogy Design: Visual Knowledge Building stresses a broad variety of methodological perspectives and ways of looking at a problem or question along the MA program multidisciplinary streams (Visual Knowledge Building/ Media Pedagogy/ Communication theory) with regard to appropriateness for the master’s thesis and continuing doctoral studies.
  • Methodological approaches to the thesis can either be theoretical/synthesis, theoretical/applied, qualitative (narrative analysis, discourse analysis, ethnographic), quantitative, or an adequate combination.
  • Theory in a theoretical/synthesis or theoretical/applied approach should help you to shape and structure questions you wish to ask regarding ePedagogy Design: Visual Knowledge Building. Furthermore these questions should allow you to identify ways of interpreting relevant problems or issues and the specific and broader implications of a variety of interpretations for multidisciplinary research, practice, policy and theory.
  • Inquiry or problem posing should be in adjunction with the nature of the knowledge produced by your research methodology or methodologies (quantitative/qualitative, critical, theoretical, empirical, historical narrative, discursive, ethnographic, etc.) and by other studies that investigate similar themes or topics, for example in visual media culture and cognitive sciences.
  • The MA thesis discussion should be expanded to include artistic, media theoretical, philosophical, psychological, historical, cultural/anthropological, sociological, technological and/or thematic perspectives regarding specific topics or themes in, for example, game culture, interface design, future studies, learning cultures, image science, cultural studies, social media.
  • Types of investigation:
    • a) Theoretical/synthesis theses should include a theoretical analysis and synthesis, that is, a review of the literature, state-of-the-art research that forms the base of assumptions, and ideas that should help you to compare them with a specific or multiple theoretical framework(s).
    • b) Theoretical/application theses should include a theoretical analysis and synthesis, that is, a review of the literature, state-of-the-art research that forms the base of assumptions, ideas and a critique of what practice that exerts particular problems or questions related to the application of that practice.
